The city of Chachapoyas , founded in 1538, is a city of small narrow streets with an impressive main square; the city is ornamented with balconies and large houses that date back to colonial times.

Among the main tourist attractions of the city, we can find the impressive citadel of Kuelap , a huge stone fortress 584 meters long and 110 meters wide, built at the top of a mountain. Besides, in this area you can find the Lagoon of the Condor or of the Mummies, Chinata Falls and the Karajia Sarcophaguses, amazing two-meter-high mud tombs, embedded in a rocky mountain.

Climate: The city of Chachapoyas has a mild climate with the rainy season in the summer months (December to April). The highest average annual temperature is 23ºC ( 68 ºF ) and the lowest 13ºC ( 51 ºF ).
